Summer school testing program

As the 2021-2022 school year comes to an end, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will continue to offer free COVID-19 testing resources to schools for summer learning and programming.  

Program overview
  • CDPHE will continue to offer free, rapid, over-the-counter Antigen Testing kits to members of the K-12 community. Details about how the kits work are below:
    • Tests are unproctored and people should use them at home. 
    • Each test kit includes two tests.  
    • Tests will provide results within 15 minutes.
    • These tests can be used by children as young as 2 years-old. 
  • CDPHE will offer Abbott’s BinaxNow Professional (Bulk Binax) Rapid Antigen Tests. Details about how the Bulk Binax Rapid Antigen Testing works are below:
    • A trained staff member will administer the tests on-site at school. 
    • Test results must be reported by school staff using the reporting application SimpleReport. Find SimpleReport enrollment Instructions under the header “How to Report COVID-19,” Option 2. 
Enrollment and ordering tests
  • To order the over-the-counter Antigen Testing kits, use this order form. The kits will be available throughout the summer and can be ordered and distributed by schools or districts. 
  • To receive the Bulk Binax Rapid Antigen Tests, complete this enrollment form. Enrollment for the Abbott BinaxNow Professional Rapid Antigen testing option will end July 8, 2022 at 5 p.m.

Summer camp testing program

CDPHE also offers free COVID-19 testing resources to licensed overnight/residential summer camps

Eligibility requirements
  • Camps must provide campers with equitable access to educational and recreational activities.
  • Updated guidance for overnight/residential summer camps is available on CDPHE’s residential camps webpage
  • To administer the tests, your camp must have a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment certificate. 
  • Timely reporting of test results.
Program overview
  • CDPHE will offer Abbott’s BinaxNow Professional (Bulk Binax) Rapid Antigen Tests. Details about how the Bulk Binax Rapid Antigen Testing works are below:
    • Tests will be administered on-site by a trained staff member. 
    • These tests should be only used for symptomatic people and their close contacts.  
    • To administer the tests, your camp must have a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment certificate
    • Required training necessary for staff to administer these tests is available at no cost. 
  • Results may be reported using an application called SimpleReport, an online, browser-based reporting portal run by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 
    • Enrollment instructions for SimpleReport can be found here, under the header, “How to Report COVID-19,” Option 2. 
  • If your camp is in an area that has limited cellular service or no Internet access, email the CDPHE school, child care, higher education team at cdphe_covid_school_childcare@state.co.us
Enrollment and ordering tests
  • To enroll your camp in the free testing program, complete this enrollment form. Enrollment for this testing option will end July 8, 2022 at 5 p.m
  • Once enrolled, CDPHE will work to have orders shipped in a timely manner. 
  • Additionally, if your camp is interested in providing over-the-counter Antigen Testing kits to staff and campers prior to arrival, CDPHE can provide you with a supply for distribution. 
    • The purpose of the over-the-counter Antigen Testing kits is to distribute to staff and campers prior to their arrival at camp, so the tests are administered at home. These tests are not intended to be administered on-site at camp. 
    • To order the over-the-counter Antigen Testing kits, use this order form. The kits will be available throughout the summer.
